As part of the #LearningPlanet Festival’s theme dedicated to Learning for Sustainability, which explores how learning processes and all types of education need to evolve to address the magnitude and complexity of sustainability challenges, the University Design Institute and the Learning Planet Institute are co-convening a panel to address the transformation of higher education institutions, and the need for novel financing mechanisms to enable this redesign.
This paramount need for higher education to transform to address issues of sustainability is currently impeded by the lack of knowledge and means possessed by many universities, making change very difficult. The need to create new higher education offerings around sustainability compounds this problem globally. To take only one exemple, a recent UNESCO study revealed that less than half the 100 countries surveyed included some information about climate change in curricula.
This panel will discuss in depth how to leverage financing models to help design or redesign universities and bridge the gap between what exists now and what needs to exist for the future of the planet.
During the session, panelists will discuss the challenges and opportunities offered by the need to redesign and share ideas for solutions. The session will also have voices of youth participants sharing what they most want to see from higher education in their countries and globally.
