Students & Educators: Co-Constructing a Transformative Education System

Co-creation and co-construction between students and educators have become buzzwords for transforming our current education systems. A constructivist orientation suggests that student cooperation and collective perspectives can serve to aid in governance and curricula engagement at the local, national, regional and global level of education decision-making with education institutions, civil society, governments and intergovernmental organisations. Underlying this orientation is the belief that intergenerational and democratic processes in education can combat a potentially damaging “banking-model” of education, as famous education theorist Paulo Freire identifies, through inclusive and equitable engagement. This session is held in partnership between educators and student representatives from the Global Student Forum and Education International, to describe when they have engaged in collaborative processes, to support educational governance and democratic citizenship.
