YouthxYouth‘s 2nd Learning Festival is taking place from Friday, January 21st to Sunday, January 23rd, 2022!
YouthxYouth (YxY) is a global community of youth activists and adult allies dedicated to the reimagination and transformation of education for collective liberation. Our goal is to accelerate the process of young people influencing, designing, and transforming their learning experiences and education systems.
Last year, our first-ever YouthxYouth (YxY, “Youth by Youth”) experience, was guided by the central question: WHAT IF young people designed the future of education? This year, we are moving from ideas to action, from WHAT IF to HOW. Our central question is: HOW will young people design the future of education? Our sessions will dive deep into practical activist tools and showcase ways that young people are already taking action to radically reimagine education.

- CAMPFIRE – What if global citizenship education was the norm?, 14:00-14:25 CET

What if Global Citizenship Education was the norm towards sustainability and collective well-being? Recognising the urgent need to open a global discussion about education, this session will explore what is GCED in global context, understanding the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values young people need in the 21st century. Additionally, with the support of experiences and projects, young people will feel inspired to fulfill their potential as global citizens and contribute to the well-being of their communities and the planet.
- COMMUNITY GARDEN – Crazy Beautiful World: A Poetic Exploration, 14:00-14:55 CET

We are a mother and teenage son and in September 2021 we formed a Community Interest Company called Crazy Beautiful World. In this community garden session we will explore the questions: In a world that seems to have gone crazy, what is it that keeps you going? When life feels tough and confusing, where do you find comfort, support, inspiration and joy? What would a world look like where we have moved from the Crazy to the Beautiful? We hope you will come and explore this with us!

- CAMPFIRE – Strength in Numbers, 11:00-11:55 CET
The intent of this activity is to empower participants in identifying their own strengths, enhancing them, and also building an ability to notice others’ strengths and appreciating them. This activity involves some degree of creative risk, which might be new for some participants. However, considering the reflective nature of this session, it helps in setting the tone for deeper awareness about one’s inner life and more appreciation for one’s own self. This helps them build their self-image (what they think of themselves), and in turn, enhances their self-esteem. This is also a medium through which participants can indulge in self-expression in a safe and effective way. Purpose:To understand oneself deeper by identifying inner strengthsTo appreciate one’s own strengths and those of others.
- ACTIVIST CLASSROOM – What if we had compassion for ourselves? – Cultivating Resilience through Self-Compassion, 12:00-12:55 CET
The work of social change is hard and challenging. We need to be there for the long haul without losing heart no matter how defeating the task may appear to be. This session on cultivating resilience through self-compassion, helps participants explore alternative ways to relate to disappointments, failure and challenges. Through self-reflective exercises they learn to appreciate that much of the distress they experience in the face of disappointments and the vagaries of life is caused by their own conditioned ways of thinking. They reflect on their own unhelpful thinking patterns. They understand the role of self-compassion and its relationship to cultivating a growth mindset and resilience and learn strategies to cultivate the same.
- LAB – Reimagining Education WITH children, 12:00-12:55 CET

Across the world, students, who are the primary stakeholders in the Education system, are for the most part mere recipients of an education where their voices are often marginalized and suppressed. At KER, we believe that this can be changed by creating safe spaces for voice, working in partnership with children and by helping students unleash their potential for a better world.
- ACTIVISTS CLASSROOM – Spiritual Activism for Social Change, 15:00-15:55 CET

Who are you? What are your ethics? What do you bring to the world? How to be a leader? You are invited to learn the path of Spiritual Activism, so that you can be the leader you are called to be. As each young person learns to be a spiritual seeker, discovering both eternal truths and personal truths, he or she is able to make a conscious decision to be of service to manifest peace and unity in the world and to link to others who hold the same intention. One by one, you become your authentic self, improve your relationships and focus on making the world a better place for now and for future generations.
- ACTIVIST CLASSROOM – Changemaker Education: Community Connected Learning, 15:00-15:55 CET
This session will help young activists understand what community-connected learning is, explore some of the key concepts and design principles, get inspired with stories of great practice, and discover how they might take the first step to bringing a community-connected approach to their classroom or school.

- LAB – What if we Designed our own Learning? When Learning Comes Alive!, 19:00-19:55 CET
If you could design your own learning, what do you imagine coming alive? What would you create independently and co-create, and how would you share your vision with others? In this learning session, we’ll reflect on the prompt: When have you felt most alive as a person and a learner? And use this reflection point to imagine what our learning experiences would look and feel like if we followed our curiosity to design our own learning paths.
- ACTIVIST CLASSROOM – Compassionate Systems Change in Education, 19:00-20:20 CET
How do you go about creating change in your education system that will really last and sustain over time? And how to do it in a compassionate way, bringing everybody in a collective vision and healing the wounds of oppression rather than creating new ones? That is what we are going to unpack together with the help of the Compassionate Systems framework. This approach is currently used in many different schools, school districts and statewide systems of education in 10 countries. You will leave the workshop with a good understanding of the basics of the approach, an in depth knowledge of one of the tools in the toolbox, and curiosity to discover more!
- LAB – What if we co-created a platform to support young people to connect with themselves, each other, and the planet?, 19:00-20:20 CET
This is an opportunity to shape the future of Curriculum for Life (C4L), an open-source education platform that creates and curates curricula that support the development of positive relationships with ourselves, each other, the unique places we live in, and our planet. C4L is committed to co-designing with young people curriculums that are inspiring, adaptable, and free for all to access. This is part of our initial outreach to young people who would like to guide us in co-creating life-affirming and open-source curriculums. The session will be an 80-minute, online peer-to-peer gathering, facilitated by youth for youth and adult allies, where we will discuss the question: What themes should Curriculum for Life prioritize to support young people to connect with themselves, each other, and the planet?
- CAMPFIRE – What if we all had access to mental health support?, 20:00-20:25 CET
Language shapes how we see the world. The words we choose and the meanings we attach to them influence our feelings, attitudes and beliefs. Our language choices have a powerful effect on how we view mental health and people living with mental health conditions. In this session, Charvi Gangwani, an Indian mental health advocate shares how you can contribute in creating multilingual resources for adolescents whose first language is not English to make information on mental health more inclusive for people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The session will highlight the potential of virtual communities in bringing more diverse sets of voices to participate in the virtual working of strengthening advocacy efforts.
