The LearningPlanet Alliance was represented by Katherine Brown at the Management of Social Transformations (MOST) Forum at UNESCO in Paris, to hear from our partner organisation, Club of Rome (our co-lead of the Ubuntu Learning Circle), and the BRIDGES Coalition.
What is the Management of Social Transformations Forum?
The Management of Social Transformations (MOST) Forum convenes leading experts for cutting-edge intellectual debates on the biggest challenges and solutions in social development.
What happened during the Forum?
As several speakers pointed out, to deal with complex interrelated issues, we need a collaborative and transversal approach. Knowledge sharing is crucial, and the BRIDGES Coalition, led by Steven Hartman, is leading the way in this regard. An international coalition is necessary to manage these issues better and make real progress. Simon Reid-Henry also highlighted the importance of trustworthy institutions and enhancing people’s voices to build trust and resolve the paradoxes we face. To achieve this, we need inclusive governance and priority setting, long-term decision-making capacity, and the inclusion of community and civil knowledge.
Panellists also discussed the role of social media in polarisation and emphasised the need to rethink the role of algorithms to bridge polarised groups, mitigate social inequalities and bias, and encourage productive conversations on social media, especially as we navigate new AI innovations like ChatGPT.
Nolita Mvunelo and Carlos Alvarez Pereira reminded us that we can only say we have learned when we have changed based on the knowledge we have acquired. In that spirit, we look forward to continuing to join forces with our community to learn how to better take care of ourselves, each other and our environment to ensure a sustainable future for all.
