What are a few takeaways from 2020 that you will take into 2021?
2020 being a year of reckoning and reflection has highlighted the lacunae of our existence aplenty. However, the most blaring one is despite how digitally connected we are, we are disconnected from ourselves, each other and our environment and that fragmentation has been steadily permeating into our culture, mindsets, policies, lifestyles et al. One of the greatest obstacles in meeting today’s grand challenges which are complex, interconnected and emergent by nature is that our customary tools to address them are specialized, targeted and work in silos. Resonating with Jeffrey Walker’s words, ‘Solving the world’s biggest problems takes ensembles, not soloists’, CAN aspires to be an artful ensemble of changemakers, bringing people from a myriad of backgrounds together and pooling perspectives towards common goals. Another treasured takeaway as we stand at this civilisational crossroad is that there’s a pressing need to reimagine tomorrow. Ergo, along with learning, unlearning and relearning obsolete narratives are vital in order to come up with innovative solutions.
Why celebrate learning?
At CAN, we believe that education is the in-hand technology to shape evolution and the process of consuming education, i.e., learning, becomes not just a necessity but also a north star, guiding us towards a better tomorrow. Learning is innate, can be derived through experience or by being taught and lays focus upon acquisition and improvement of skills, behaviour, values and understanding. It is lifelong, humbling and unifying in the sense that it gives all of humankind a common goal – to seek betterment, constantly.
What are you most looking forward to regarding the upcoming #LP Festival?
Any and every opportunity to learn from and learn with individuals and organisations doing commendable work to advance and shape shift education is precious. The Learning Planet Festival is a one of a kind opportunity that brings together various stakeholders of ‘learning’ from different parts of the world with offerings of events, talks, dialogues etc., despite the logistical constraints of a virtual festival. CAN is thrilled to seek, explore, collaborate and co-create with such active players, those alike and different, within the sector.
