Isobel Frye is the founding and Executive Director of Social Policy Initiative (SPI) in Johannesburg.
Isobel started work as a commercial lawyer, and then moved over to the social justice sector. She headed up the Black Sash Advocacy as National Advocacy Manager. From there she moved to work as a senior researcher at NALEDI, the research service organisation of COSATU, before starting SPI.
SPI uses research and analysis to advance critical thinking and policy development about universal social security as a way to advance human rights and dignity, and reduce poverty and inequality in South Africa.
Isobel is also a well- respected advocate for a universal basic income grant, a policy that she has actively campaigned for since 2002.
