William Rankin

Dr William Rankin is an educational theorist, designer, and consultant with experience in higher education, Fortune 500 companies, small tech startups, and private consulting. He has worked with large and small schools; local, regional, and national governments; and educational organizations and companies to develop and further innovative teaching and learning strategies. An early champion of the use of mobile technologies for learning, he is a recognized authority on learner-centric and project-based learning and on using real-world experiences and corporate/school partnerships for learning.

From 2018 to 2019, he led a team of 7 learning designers and researchers using this model to create learner-customizable ‘maker’ hardware and software challenges for UK startup pi-top, culminating in the “follow/tinker/make/share” approach to constructionist learning.Prior to founding the Unfold Learning group, Rankin served as Director of Learning on the global education team at Apple Inc. in Cupertino, California from 2013 to 2016.
